MCT Designer Challenge: Birdie Birthday BLING!

This Saturday is going to be a pretty exciting fun-packed day! First The Hubs and I will start out with a 6-mile training run with our team and then we'll head out to help set-up for and celebrate our oldest nephew's graduation party. It's a double-whammy celebration because it's also my Aunt/Godmother's birthday!

Growing up, my nickname has always been "Ronnie-bird". It was my Grandmother's nickname (whom I unfortunately didn't get to meet) and was passed down to me. My Aunt Chris is one of many who always calls me this, so I thought a little birdie on her birthday card was appropriate.

Emma's challenge for today is to use BLING! It's easy to see the rhinestones I've added to my card, but the photo doesn't show the glitter very well. I used Star Dust Stickles to glitter the music notes, leaves and birdie and also to dot the blue strip on the right side.

The Woodgrain embossing folder (Stampin' Up!) gives this card a nature feel, but using it on white card stock keeps the design crisp. I just love merging two styles! To add a bit more 'nature', I tied some hemp twine (from Liz's Paper Loft Boutique) around the green banner layer.

MCT Scrapping the Little Things: Father of the Bride

It's not often that I'm wiping tears away as I write up a blog post. But today is pretty special.

Two years ago today, I married my very best friend. Our wedding day was not without a few interesting moments (such as not being able to find my Mom and then being told she was outside... mowing my lawn. {She wanted it to look its best for pictures *giggle*}), but despite not having the proper flavor for the top tier of our wedding cake (see below) and any other hiccups, the day was perfect.

I've been looking through our wedding album today (or at least, what I've completed so far) and read through the letters we wrote to each other to read before walking down the aisle (hence the tears). Maybe one day I'll share the page that holds those letters. But for now, in honor of our 2nd anniversary and of yesterday being Father's Day, I'd like to share my Father of the Bride layout.

I used several different chipboard letter sets to create the title on this layout. I hand-wrote "the" myself.

I just love the way the banners turned out at the top of the second page. I drew inspiration from fellow DT member, Katie's, Banner Graduation Card for that. Even though the main background patterns on the two pages aren't the same, using similar colors really tie them together.

P.S. While our guests were served Pineapple Mandarin Orange European Torte for dessert (a fancy and DELICIOUS cake), the wedding party was supposed to enjoy Tiramisu (the top tier of the cake). Unfortunately, the bakery made a mistake and we all had the Pineapple Mandarin Orange. It wasn't a big deal, of course and the bakery offered us a free Tiramisu Torte to pick up whenever we wanted. We decided to wait to have the Tiramisu until our first anniversary and make it a tradition. So today, I'm picking up our Anniversary Tiramisu from the same bakery to help us celebrate!

MCT 3D Wednesday: Patriotic Grad Gift

If you haven't heard, my oldest nephew, Mitch, graduated from high school this month. Where has the time gone? I've already created his card, but wanted to make a special little something to put his gift in. This is a pretty small box, but we should have no problem fitting his gift inside. What does every grad want? $$$$ *giggle*

Mitch's high school colors are red, white and blue (Go Saints!), so this little patriotic box is PERFECT for him!

Here's Lookin' At You Stamp Set (graduation cap die)

The graduation cap was cut twice so I could layer the tassel in another color. I just cut a little extra of the cap to allow the tassel to reach the center of the cap and then attached a silver brad. I also trimmed the bottom of the graduation cap to fit the light bulb.

The sentiment was embossed using Versamark and white embossing powder.

MCT Scrapping the Little Things: Maid of Honor

You've probably heard me talk about my BFF, Stephanie, before. If you haven't, let me quickly catch you up to speed: she's pretty amazing.

Two years ago, I was blessed to have her as my Maid of Honor. This page is for her.

I used a few different Stampin' Up! patterned papers and card stock on this layout. My Cricut cut out the "maid of honor" title and I accented the "o"s with some pearly brads.

The "captured" and "Lovely" (from MCT's Life is Good stamp set) were stamped in Versamark and embossed in black and white embossing powder on vellum.

This is page one of a two-page layout. The second page isn't finished yet. I'd like to have Stephanie hand-write her MOH speech around a photo of us on my wedding day on that page. It will be something special that I can treasure for years to come.

I hope you were inspired!
