MCT Tutorial Thursday: Gift Box Card Holder

by Veronica

Well, hello there! As you probably know, I love finding new ways to package gift cards. We give quite a few of them out nowadays because our nieces and nephews are getting older and they'd prefer gift cards for Christmas and birthdays and really, it's just easier on us!

A bit ago, a Facebook friend of mine shared this awesome video on how to turn one half of a shirt box into a smaller, folded box and I thought it was genius! Keeping that in mind, I decided to try my hand at making a much smaller version for gift cards and voila!

It's really simple to make and is held closed by a cute little belly band. You can decorate the belly band to match whatever holiday or theme you're gifting for!

MCT Products Used
Holiday Tags Stamp & Die Set (sentiment, candy canes)
Stitched Belly Band Dies (layered shapes)
Click on above diagram for larger view

To make the box:

  1. Cut your cardstock to 5" x 4.5".
  2. Score 1/2" around all edges.
  3. Score on the long side at 2.25" from both ends (leaving 1/2" in the middle).
  4. Cut on the scored lines as shown in the diagram to the right (white marks).
  5. Fold on remaining scored lines, tape as needed.
This little box fits a gift card perfectly! The same concept can be applied to different sized pieces of cardstock (making the score lines wider as needed) for many size boxes.

MCT 48th Release Blog Hop: Best Friend Tag

by Veronica

Hey there! It's Release Day at My Creative Time - woohoo!!! You've probably hopped here from Ruthie's blog. If not, head on over to Emma's blog to start from the very beginning.

Today, I'm featuring the FREE Bestie Die that the first 150 shoppers will receive with their purchase. I've cut the "ie" off and paired it with a stamp and die from Friendships are Forever (also new today) to create a simple little tag for my BFF, Stephanie. She's getting married in April, so this tag will either adorn her bridal shower gift or a special little gift on her Big Day.

I used the tag dies from Holiday Tags Stamps & Dies for the base and kept the tag in her wedding colors: navy and lime green. I added a few little Stickles drops for some extra sparkle.

***Freebie Stamp & Die***
For our freebie this release, we are giving away this adorable "Bestie" die to the FIRST 150 shoppers!
You do NOT have to add it in your cart. If you are one of the first 150 shoppers, Emma and her shipping crew will automatically include it in your package! If you order AFTER the 150th shopper, this stamp set will be available for purchase! If you see this set available in the store, that means that 150 shoppers have already come through. No exceptions will be made. Also, this freebie is not a part of the 47th Edition Bundle and is only sold separately.

MCT 48th Edition Sneak Peek: Sweet Baker Birthday Card

by Veronica

Hey there! Today I'm sneak peeking two new sets that are due out tomorrow: Mixed Up for You and Stitched Apron Dies

This card is way early for our niece, Jenna's, birthday. But when I saw these sets, I knew exactly who I'd be using them for. Jenna is 10 and loves to bake - and she's good at it! She's always trying new recipes to bring to family gatherings. I have to say, that I was honored when she asked me for my vanilla buttercream frosting recipe. That's high praise coming from her!

MCT Products Used
New! Mixed Just for You (sentiment) Available Friday
New! Stitched Apron Dies (chef's hat) Available Friday

I added some shading to the chef's hat with my Copic markers for some extra dimension. This is a very simple card, but I think the focal point makes a big impact. I love cards like that!

Thanks for stopping by to see today's Sneak Peek. Be sure to check out the other designers' sneak peeks on Emma's blog. I'll see you back here tomorrow for the Release Blog Hop.

MCT Favorite Stamp of the Month: Shining Star Fox Card

by Veronica

Hey there! Today the My Creative Time Design Team is showcasing our Stamp of the Month: You're My Hero. It's on sale through the end of October!

I haven't had an opportunity to use the Fall Friends set, so I was excited to finally be able to ink up this sweet little fox for this card.

MCT Products Used
You're My Hero (sentiment)
Fall Friends (fox, leaves, and stump)
Stitched Party Dies (banner)
Bunch of Stitched Star Dies
Stitched Square Dies Inside & Out

I have to admit that the end result of this card is not what I originally had in mind when I started working on it. And it took me forever to finish. The layout was originally intended to be centered and symmetrical, but I just couldn't fall in love with it that way. I'm really happy with the final product, though.

Thanks for stopping by today! You can see more projects using this month's favorite stamp set on Emma's blog. And don't forget to grab this set while it's on sale!

MCT Manly Monday: Mounted Birthday Card

by Veronica

It's no secret that masculine cards can be difficult to create. We have so many flowers and cute little critters to use on our projects, but sometimes the guys get shafted.

Last Christmas, I requested a Silhouette Cameo and have used it for a lot of invitation and stationery projects so far. Just recently, I started using it for scrapbooking and card making creations. I purchased a set of mounted deer heads the other day with some free credits I had that were soon to expire. When asked to make a 'manly' card, I knew exactly what I would be using!

This card is for my brother, Dan's, 33rd birthday in November. With the baby due on November 15th, I know I won't have time to make Dan a birthday card, so I figured I'd have it ready early.

MCT Products Used
Scalloped Stitched Oval Dies
Grainy Wood Background
The Sky is the Limit (banner die)
To A Cute Little Chickie ("Happy")
Happy Everything ("birthday")

I'm really loving the neutral color scheme with pop of shimmery gold on this card. For now, it'll be set aside to be sent out later. And to be honest, knowing me, it'll probably be sent out late.

Check out more Manly Monday projects on Emma's blog!

MCT Inspire Me Wednesday: Dino Card

by Veronica

The Hubs and I have been so blessed by the many well-wishes and sweet gifts that we've received for Baby K (due in November). Just a couple of days ago, an unexpected package arrived in my mailbox and I was blown away when I saw what was inside.

My DT sister, Ruthie, sent us these beautiful handmade burp cloths and bibs! And wouldn't you know that they totally coordinate with our color scheme!!!

I've used the colors and patterns of these awesome gifts to create a thank you card to send to her.

As you can see, our theme for Baby K is dinosaurs, and the MCT set, Prehistoric Holidays is perfect for this! I kept the layout simple to draw more focus to my cute little dinosaur. He is framed using the Stitched Square Dies Inside & Out. I added some glossy accents to my dino for a bit more interest and texture.

Thanks for dropping by today. Head over to Emma's blog to see what the other designs have created.

I hope you were inspired!

MCT 47th Release Blog Hop: Masked Christmas Tag

by Veronica

Hello, hello!

It's a beautiful day for a Blog Hop, isn't it? If you've arrived here from Ruthie's blog, you're on the right track. If not, you can start this Hop from the beginning at Emma's blog. You WON'T want to miss a thing!

Today, I'm showcasing the new Holidays Tags stamps & dies set (available for pre-order NOW). I love to add special tags to my Christmas packages. Some years, I make them myself. Other years, I find something super cute in the store and just pick those up. Let me tell you: there's no shame in that! In the end, the pretty package is the main goal. With this new set, though, I'll definitely be making my tags this year.

This sweet little tag was dreamed up and put together in about four minutes. Really. To achieve the white 'block' for the "to:, from:", I simply masked that area before stamping the Grainy Wood Background onto my white layer. Here's a simple step-by-step on that process:
  1. Die cut white tag layer.
  2. Cut rectangle from sticky part of Post-It note. This is your 'mask'.
  3. Stick mask to center of white tag layer.
  4. Stamp Grainy Wood Background onto masked white tag layer.
  5. Remove mask.
It's that easy! I think that just stamping the "to:, from:" on the wood pattern would have been a bit too busy/messy looking. This gives a very clean look.

To accent my little tree, I used a white gel pen to add snow markings.

***Freebie Stamp & Die***
The first 150 shoppers will receive this
die FREE with their orders!
For our freebie this release, we are giving away this super cute dec25th die to the FIRST 150 shoppers! You do NOT have to add it in your cart. If you are one of the first 150 shoppers, Emma and her shipping crew will automatically include it in your package! MCT 47th Edition Sneak Peek: Dec 25th Gift Card Holder

by Veronica

Hello and welcome to another Sneak Peek of the MCT New Release! Today we are showcasing the brand new Stitched Treat Sleeve Die and dec25th Die (our freebie for this month!).

I don't have a lot of reasons for treats, really, so I love to use MCT dies as gift card holders! Since this die gives a little extra room for treats, I've added some shredded filler paper and it works perfectly!

I also used the new Belly Band Dies to dress up my sleeve. It's a simple design that only uses dies, so it would be perfect to make several of these for little Christmas thank you gifts (hairdresser, mail person, etc.) or for those teenagers in your life that you have NO idea what to get!

***Sneak Peek Giveaway!***
We will be giving away the sets we are showcasing each day to ONE lucky winner! Today's winner will be announced tomorrow in Emma's video on her blog.

MCT Made In Minutes: Dino Gift Card Holders

by Veronica

Hello, hello! This is a very exciting week for me: my baby shower is this Saturday!!! I love any reason to get together and celebrate, but I'm especially thrilled to celebrate the upcoming arrival of our baby boy.

Since Baby K's nursery is dinosaur-themed, it seemed natural to coordinate the baby shower to the same theme and colors. And since I'm a graphic designer by day, it was pretty easy for me to make sure that everything coordinated.

For raffle prizes, we'll be giving away gift cards to Target, Starbucks and Amazon. While I didn't feel the need to make a big to-do about the packaging, I wanted to make sure they were cute and coordinated with our theme.

To create this holder, I cut the Scallop Stitched Envelope out of my base color and used super sticky tape to adhere it together. You might notice that the flaps on my envelopes don't have a scallop. To get more bang for my buck, I first cut my 8.5" x 11" cardstock in half to get two envelopes out of one full sheet. The die itself is a little bit wider than a half sheet, so I simply let the scallop part hang off when I ran it through my die cutting machine.

I attached the gift cards to the Stitched 3x4 Journal Die with glue dots (after printing my cute little row of dinos on the white cardstock). The journal die slips right inside the envelope - perfect fit!

A dino medallion was attached to the simple belly band and we were good to go!

To give our winners a choice of gift cards, I coordinated the color of the envelope with the company:

Red = Target, Green = Starbucks, and Blue = Amazon

I'm hoping to check back in with photos from the shower soon! Thanks for stopping by today. Check out Emma's blog for more projects you can make in minutes.

I hope you were inspired!

MCT 46th Release Blog Hop: Fangtastic Day Card

by Veronica

Happy Release Day!!! Thanks so much for joining us on the MCT Release Blog Hop! You've probably hopped here from the Ruthie's blog. If not, head on over to Emma's blog to start from the very beginning. You'll be glad you did!

This weekend, our nephew, Christopher, will be turning 18 and I can't believe it! I still see him as the little boy who loved to dress up as Toy Story characters for Halloween. He has grown into such a wonderful young man and we are so proud of him! Move-in day for Eastern Michigan University is right around the corner and we know that he'll excel.

A few years ago, I handed Chris a handmade card for his birthday (as I usually do). He opened it and looked at me funny. It wasn't until later that day that he mentioned the Father's Day card I gave him for his birthday. The WHAT?!?! Apparently, when I grabbed a 'manly card' from my stash, I didn't check to make sure that it was indeed a birthday card. Ever since, I give him randomly themed cards for his birthday. This year, we're going with the Halloween theme!

I know he gets a kick out of the random cards each year. It's just a little something special we share. And who really cares what the card has on it when there's money inside, right? I know I wouldn't!

MCT Made In Minutes: Love You A Latte Card

by Veronica

Happy Monday!

This simple card uses several layers of dies to give it a more "designed" look.

MCT Products Used
All You Need Is Coffee (mug, mug heart pattern, heart stitches, "latte!")
Alpha Pack  (stamped "a")
Bunch of Fun Circle Dies (circle layer)

I just love using neutral tones with a pop of color on my projects. The coral card base isn't too bright to take away from the clean, neutral feel of the card.

That's it for me today - thanks for stopping by! Check out Emma's blog to see more Made In Minutes projects.

MCT Tutorial Thursday: Glazed Donut Card

by Veronica

Hey there! Along with our projects today, the MCT Design Team will be showing you tutorials on how to achieve the different techniques we've used.

When coming up with my technique, I wanted to be sure to show you something that I've actually done. This one is super simple and adds just a touch of shine to your projects.

On my last project, I used Crystal Effects to get a shiny gloss on my hearts. This technique, which I've dubbed "glazing" for today's donut card, gives a similar look without all of the drying time. This card uses the We're Better Together stamp set.

You'll also notice that the 'glaze' on this card isn't as perfect as on the Happy Fishies card from a couple of days ago. It has a texture to it.

Glazing Instructions

1. Die cut the donut shapes out of your desired colors of cardstock.

2. Ink the donut frosting stamp in clear Versamark and stamp it onto the frosting shape.

3. Cover the Versamarked frosting shape with clear embossing powder and heat.

Final Product: A shiny, glazed donut!

*I used this same technique for the chocolate sprinkles on the edge of my card base.

After adhering my donut together with pop dots, I added different color sprinkles to the glaze.

Handy Tip: All of the MCT dies give you an easy way to release your shapes from the metal die once cut. Some dies are "open" and others are "closed" and have little holes that you can slip a poker tool through to pop out the shape (like the donut dies shown in the first instruction photo). The sprinkles die is closed and the little shapes get stuck in the die after cutting. This is a good thing!!! Instead of poking them all out and then fishing for them on your craft table, simply dot your glue on your donut where you want the sprinkles to go and then poke them out onto the glue spots. Easy peasy!

That's all for me today! Be sure to drop by Emma's blog to see the other great tutorials that the designers have in store for you.

I hope you were inspired!

MCT Favorite Stamp of the Month: Happy Fishies Card

by Veronica

I am terrible about getting cards out on time. Terrible. Even if I already have one MADE, it's a rare occurrence that it'll reach the recipient on time. It's the though that counts, right? Gosh, I hope so.

This card is for my brother and sister-in-law who celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary this month. Let's just say that this card is late. Sorry, Christina!

MCT Products Used
Bracket Sentiments (sentiment) Stamp of the Month!

After coloring in my fishies with Copics, I added eyelashes to one fish and glittered them both with Stickles to add some sparkle. I accented the hearts with Crystal Effects for a shiny, underwater look.

This card will be going out in the mail today (finally)!

Thanks for stopping by! You can find more projects using the Stamp of the Month on Emma's blog. And don't forget that if this set has been on your wishlist, it's ON SALE now through July 31st.

MCT What A Treat Wednesday: Monogram Notecard Set + Box

by Veronica

Over the last two weeks, I've shared a couple of Monogram Notecards (1,2) that I'm giving to a friend for her hospitality in hosting our Bible study group in her home this summer. Well, the set is complete and I've made a coordinating envelope box to put them all in.

I'm super happy with how this set turned out. All of the cards coordinate with each other, but they're not too matchy-matchy.

MCT Products Used

Envelope Box
Fun Stitched Edges Die (scalloped layer)
Stitched Starburst Dies
Uppercase Fun Dies ("E")

Top Left Card
See this post

Top Right Card
Stitched Party Dies (banner)
Scalloped Stitched Oval Dies
Circle Stitched Pattern Dies (circle stitching)
Stitched Starburst Dies
Lowercase Fun Dies ("e")

Bottom Left Card
See this post

Bottom Right Card
Stitched 3x4 Journal Die (pink layer)
Love to Learn Dies (white layer)
Uppercase Fun Dies ("E")

The card box was made using my Stampin' Up Envelope Punch Board. Would you believe that I've owned this product for 2 years and this is my second time ever using it? I found this super helpful video tutorial on how to make this box the perfect size to fit my notecard set.

My box fits all four of these cards (which use quite a few pop dots, so they're not super flat) and four envelopes. The belly band keeps the box closed and is really easy to slip off. When adhering your belly band closed, be sure to not make it too tight. You want it to slip on and off the box easily.

I chose not to snip off the little tabs at the top as the tutorial instructs. When I close the box, I like that the edges are closed as well. Just my personal preference.

That's it for my "treat" today. You can see more on Emma's blog.

I hope you were inspired!

MCT 45th Edition Sneak Peek: Little Lady Card

by Veronica

It's another Sneak Peek day with My Creative Time! Only one more day until all of the fabulous goodies we've been teasing you with will be available for you to purchase.

This card was created for our now 10-year-old niece, Jenna's, birthday.

Who says you have to have balloons, cake and "birthday" sentiments for a birthday card? I used the brand new (releasing tomorrow) stamp set, Hey There Little Lady, plus my Bunch of Fun Circle Dies to bring this simple card to life. Sometimes, I like to use a LOT of products, but it's nice to keep it simple every once in a while.

MCT Trending Now: Monogram Notecard

by Veronica

It's so handy being crafty when it comes to giving small tokens of appreciation. And giving something handmade really shows someone that you took time to do something special for them.

This card is the first of a set I'll be making for a very kind woman in my Bible Study group. She has opened her home for our group over the summer and I want her to know that we appreciate her hospitality.

I kept the card very simple and didn't add any sentiments to it so that she can use it for whatever she wants: thank you note, thinking of you card, etc.

My idea is to create a set of cards in these colors, but with several simple designs. She makes jewelry for herself and others, so I know she'll appreciate a handmade gift.

MCT Products Used
Bunch of Fun Circles
Uppercase Fun Dies

Fun tip: When creating your projects, remember that layering patterns behind panels with windows can be just as impactful as layering them on top!

MCT Scrapping the Little Things: Bridal Party Wedding Layout

by Veronica

Now that I've got a baby book to get started on (soon), I'm happy to be finishing up my wedding album (finally)! I have most of the important pages done and am just filling in the album with more fun photos.

I already have pages for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, but our photographer took such great photos after our ceremony out on the golf course - I didn't want to leave some of these shots out of the album!

MCT Products Used
Uppercase Fun Dies ("Bridal")
Let's Celebrate ("Party")
Wishing You Both the Best (small heart die)

Of course, as I added this layout to my wedding album, I had to go back through all of the pages and started crying. These darn pregnancy hormones have made me quite emotional lately. I cry at Pampers commercials!

Speaking of the baby... if anyone is wondering...

It's a boy!!!

MCT Do Over Thursday: Cake Anniversary Card

by Veronica

A couple of years ago, I made this cupcake card for my mother-in-law's birthday. It was inspired by a baking day I had with my niece, Evelyn. You can read more about the card (and our baking extravaganza) here.

And while the card was fine, I never really loved it.

Well, today is the day I get a Do Over!

I swapped out the doily, upgraded from a cupcake to a wedding cake and changed the purpose of the card from birthday to anniversary.

I can now officially say that I love this card!

This Do Over card will be given to my brother and sister-in-law this weekend for their anniversary. Please act surprised, Kim! I was really excited to play with the cake stamp from the new set, Wishing You Both The Best. I kept the colors light and mixed the patterned papers to add some interest.

MCT Products Used
Wishing You Both The Best (cake, flowers, "congratulations")

She's planning a small, intimate gathering with less than 30 people present. I'm told that I won't be walking down the aisle alone, though. The little Bun in my oven will be the ring bearer OR flower girl (we'll find out soon) and I'll need to carry him/her.

Though Stephanie hasn't decided for sure what her wedding colors will be, currently, we're looking at navy and pale pink - perfect for a flamingo card!

UPDATE 6/19 1:35pm PST: Since Emma wasn't able to update the store once the 150th shopper came through, she's extending the freebie die promotion until midnight (PST) TONIGHT, 6/19. This is a small way for her to say thank you to her loyal customers who've been with her since the very beginning and all of her new followers.
